I’m asking this question at my brother’s. This is his account. My daughter should’ve graduated high school Saturday but her school refuses to give her her diploma because they are being unreasonable. This year they started a new program and “gave” her a laptop. Last week was finals. Lately, I’ve been short on money, I figured she wouldn’t need the laptop this summer, and I know that her college will be giving her one. So I sold the laptop. I hoped to get $3000 which would’ve come in handy to pay some bills, fix up my car, and have some left over. The pawnbroker told me that the laptop was only worth $200. I accepted it even though I was disappointed. When my daughter came home, she told me that the laptop actually belonged to her school and that they wanted it back by Friday. I had to wait till Thursday (payday) to get $200 but the laptop had already been sold. I went to my daughter’s school to pay the $200 but they told me that it was worth $1000. When I protested, they claimed they were doing me a favor by not filing theft charges. Today, my daughter’s crying hysterically because she didn’t get to graduate with her friends. Help. What should I do?

Monday, March 23rd, 2009My daughter and I were rear ended at 50 mph while we were stopped. Needless to say, my car was totaled. I still have to pay off the remainder of my loan. Can’t get to work because i don’t have a car. I asked my attorney for a small advance ($1000.) to get a used car. He said it was illegal for him to advance me money. And then he went on to recommend a loan company that specializes in this type of loan. The place just happens to be right down the road from his law firm. He did mention the interest would be high. My husband had a lawsuit 8 years ago, and his attorney gave him at least 6 advances on his money. Is it really illegal for an attorney to advance money? I live in KY. if that helps. I would appreciate any advice on this and the loan co. too. I need it asap. Thanks to all of you for your help.
What happens to the money I have paid my mortgage lender for taxes and insurance now that they are in a BK ?
Monday, March 23rd, 2009Our mortgage lender has filed for bankruptcy. Our payments to the mortgage company include principle, interest, taxes and insurance (PITI). What happens to the money we have paid towards taxes and insurance ?? Since we have paid this money in advance with our payment, is the bankrupt mortgage lender required by law to pay them? If they don’t, due to bankruptcy protection, are we responsible to pay the money that has already been received by the mortgage lender?? In other words, lets say we have made payments totaling $10,000 over the last 10 months, $2500 of which is taxes and insurance. If the mortgage lender does not pay the $2500 to the insurance company and to the IRS, do we have to come up with the $2500 to pay what the mortgage lender did not ??

Saturday, March 14th, 2009OK, I WORKED FOR AN AGENCY CALLED NURSE CONSULTANT/DRUG CONSULTANT. I WORKED IN A PRISON AS A CNA THROUGH THEM. I RAN CLINICS FOR SPECIALTY DOCTORS. I MADE 12 DOLLARS AN HOUR. THE AGENCY GOT PAID AT LEAST 30 PER HOUR. EVERYONE WAS HAPPY, PRISON LIKED MY WORK, I LIKED MY JOB, AGENCY LIKED GETTING PAID FOR MY WORK. ALL WAS GOOD UNTIL MAY 22ND. THAT WAS MY PAYDAY. BUT THE AGENCY DID NOT PAY ME? THE PRISON PAID THEM BUT THEY DID NOT PAY ME? THEY CHANGED MY PAYDAY AND MADE ME WAIT ANOTHER WEEK. MAY 29TH? THAT MESSED UP MY WHOLE FAMILY. YOU SEE I HAVE BILLS TO PAY, GOT A WIFE AND KIDS. ARE PLAN WAS TO PAY DAYCARE,GAS&LIGHTS, CELL PHONE, FOOD, GAS IN MY CAR. IT IS A 104 MILES ROUND TRIP TO THE PRISON OR ABOUT 10 DOLLARS A DAY IN GAS. ON THE JUNE 5TH CHECK WE WAS GOING TO PAY RENT. WITH THEM CHANGING MY PAYDAY IT LEFT US IN A BIND. NO MONEY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. WHEN I GOT PAID MAY 29TH I HAD 3 WEEKS OF DAYCARE TO PAY WITH THE SAME MONEY. PLUS NOW I HAD TO PAY RENT WITH ALL THE OTHER BILLS OUT OF ONE CHECK. WAS NOT SURE I HAD ENOUGH FOOD AND GAS TO LAST ANOTHER WEEK. I TALKED TO THE PRISON ABOUT THIS ISSUE THEY TOLD ME I COULD CHANGE AGENCY’S AND EVEN GAVE ME A LIST. SO I STARTED TALKS WITH ANOTHER AGENCY. NOW JUNE 12TH MY NEXT PAYDAY FROM OLD AGENCY THEY AGAIN DID NOT PAY ME? I WAS AT WORK IN THE PRISON WITH A DOCTOR, I DROVE FROM ONE YARD TO ANOTHER. THERE IS 5 DIFERANT YARDS IN THIS PRISON. MY WIFE LEFT ME A VOICE MAIL SAYING THEY DID NOT PAY US, SHE CALLED THEM AND THEY TOLD HER THEY CHANGED ARE PAYDAY AGAIN TO THE 15TH AND LAST DAY OF THE MONTH. MONDAY. AGAIN FOR NO REASON THEY CHANGED MY PAYDAY. I AM MAD BY NOW. I CALLED THEM AND TOLD THEM I HAVE A FAMILY TO FEED, BILLS TO PAY AND RISK MY HEALTH EVERY DAY I WORK. IT IS A PRISON. STOP F**KING WITH MY PAY. YOU GOT PAID NOW PAY ME! SHE STARTED TO SAY SOMETHING BUT I SAID I QUIT! I WENT INSIDE THE PRISON SET UP ARE NEXT APPOINTMENT. THE C/O BROUGHT ARE NEXT INMATE HE SAT IN CHAIR FOR EYE EXAM. MY MANAGER FROM THE PRISON CALLED (UNIT PHONE, NO CELLS ALLOWED IN PRISON). I HAD TO DROP EVERYTHING I WAS DOING AND LEAVE. THE AGENCY CALLED HER AND TOLD HER I DO NOT WORK FOR THEM. I TOLD HER WHAT HAPPEND, SHE SAID SHE UNDERSTOOD BUT I CAN NOT WORK THERE UNLESS I HAVE AN AGENCY. I LEFT THE DOCTOR BY HERSELF WITH INMATE IN CHAIR FOR EXAM, NO AIDE TO HELP HER. PRISON IS SCRAMBLING TRYING TO GET ANOTHER AIDE. ALL BECAUSE THIS AGENCY DID NOT WANT TO PAY ME. I DROVE HOME WENT TO THE OTHER AGENCY TOOK DRUG URINE TEST, DOING PAPER WORK OVER WEEKEND. AND HOPE TO RETURN TO MY JOB NEXT WEEK? UP TO PRISON.WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS AGENCY? THEY LEFT THE PRISON IN A TOUGH POSITION, THEY COULD HAVE WAITED TILL THE END OF THE DAY. F**K MY FAMILY OVER. IS THERE SOMEONE I CAN TURN THEM INTO? I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA.
